For the second year in a row, Updata One, which specialises in business intelligence and high technology, has created an opportunity for young and ambitious software developers in Burgas to develop their skills during an internship program at the Updata One Summer School. The program focuses on gaining skills in technology while working in a team with other young and ambitious individuals.
Twenty-eight students from 10th and 11th grade of the Professional High School of Computer Programming and Innovation and the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Acad. Nikola Obreshkov enrolled in the traineeship program (held between 22.06-06.07) at the company’s office in Burgas. The main topic of the internship was „Web Data Acquisition and Enrichment.” The mentors from Updata One talked in detail about cloud-based services, developing a web-based application, and Python and Django programming. Other topics the trainees were introduced to included machine learning and information enrichment. The Updata One mentors were Konstantin Boyanov (Manager of IT structure at A Data Pro), Kaloyan Krumov (Python Developer at A Data Pro), Dimitar Todorov (Manager of Software Architecture Engineering at Identrics), and Simeon Martev (Senior Software Engineer at Identrics).
Dimitar Todorov balances his job at Identrics and teaching at School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Acad. Nikola Obreshkov.

“We wanted to give these students, and possibly our future colleagues, an opportunity to see how versatile software development can be. They also had the chance to see the type of tasks we do at our job every day. We showed them part of the tools we use to tackle different business tasks and problems. It was a pleasure to teach how we use machine learning and artificial intelligence to enrich information. We also gave them a practical task, which the students had to solve in teams. They showed remarkable skills not only in software development but also in managing projects.”

The trainees had one week to work together on the tasks given by the mentors. The team with the highest score won a 3-month subscription to the online education platform for IT courses – A Cloud Guru.
The leader of the winning team, Stoyan Ivanov, from the Professional School of Programming and Innovation, also shared his thoughts on the internship:
“Artificial intelligence is a field that will develop more and more in the future, and it was a fantastic opportunity for us to learn more about it. The biggest challenge we faced was not the final task, but managing the teamwork between students. I think the most valuable point we can get from the program is that there is always something we can learn.”
The traineeship program is part of Updata One’s long-term promise to invest in the future by sharing our most valuable resource – knowledge. The company also strives to support any initiative connected to high-school and university students’ social and educational needs.
